Top seven essentials for a fashion blogger
Fashion blogging is not just about dressing pretty, hitting the streets and snapping away. Well, not all the time. It’s more to pairing a funky top with a vintage skirt than it meets the eyes. Fashion bloggers are truly creative, but they can’t function without some important features the world has to offer.
1. The most important thing a blogger needs it’s power juice. With an average of 100 pictures taken on a busy day full of press events, luncheons and #ootd shots, that phone won’t charge itself (take a hint, Apple). We require a power bank and Powergen has made me see the light at the end of the tunnel, when I thought I was doomed to switch on airplane mode forever. Not anymore; now I can walk out the door knowing I can get carried away and fill my 64GB phone with no fear.
2. Location, location, location. The era of bad, spontaneous pictures is long gone, thank God. Now we have something called aesthetic detector. We can still go with the flow and snap emotions, but with a better background. Therefore, if you see crazy, but tastefully dressed people snooping around and sizing up places, don’t worry, they are not there for a hit job. They’ve just discovered a pretty wallpaper and want to use it as the decor for their photoshoot. Let them be and go round them.
3. If you’re quietly dining somewhere, but you need the waiter to fetch the bill, don’t get mad, he is busy. Busy taking pictures of bloggers having fun at a table nearby. We need patient, indulging, and highly trained in phone photography waiters. Also, we’re going to order more food than we can eat. The plates look more like Tuula’s Instagram feed when they are piled up by an algorithm only we know. Don’t worry, we tip well.
4. There is no complete outfit without perfect accessories. Statement necklaces, rose gold pieces, and stacking bracelets, my personal favorite this season. The more the merrier, the more delicate, the better. With the season of love just around the corner, I bet your are wasting a lot of time searching for the right gift to offer to your fashionista friend. Why throw a perfectly good opportunity to spend your already no-enough-time at the spa, when you can shop online? I am definitely recommending Annie Haak Designs delivering quality and fine jewelry. You welcome.
5. Anchored in our own reality, don’t blame us if we don’t react to your chit-chat. We’re most probably virtually staring in the new video of Taylor Swift, Blank Space, the most elegant, opulent and glamorous lifestyle craved by fashionistas in 2014. And if you are lucky to go through our blog posts, be thankful for all the flat lays and wish lists we create: we’re offering a door inside our intricate thinking. For free.
6. Some of the most important things we need as fashion bloggers, are comfortable but dazzling pieces. Starting with 10 cm high heels light as a feather, to warm but greatly accessorized coats. I am, for example, sick and tired of caring bags with shoes to change between shootings, especially when winter is more of a curse, than a dreamy background. They say layering is fashionable, and it is a powerful tool during the cold season, but we often look like homeless people, that is until we get out of a pub’s restroom, looking all prep and pretty. Let the show start.
7. Don’t get me started talking about how many times people interfered with our street style shootings. We let an “oh, how beautiful” exclamation escape, and we close our eyes when someone stares, but things escalate when people engage in creepy manifestations. We thought with the plethora of bloggers in the city, people will become more educated. Sadly, this is not the case. We need freedom to inspire, without being disturbed. Thank you very much.
I am sure there are more things that come to my mind, but I don’t want to be perceived as needy. What are your essentials to survive as a blogger?
