Restaurant reviews

Cafe Rouge, London

I’ve been many times to this restaurant, mostly because it is French and I am really subjective when it comes to this particular cuisine. Cafe Rouge is cosy, spacious and clean. The staff is friendly but slow, so if you are in a hurry, maybe you can consider another restaurant. The atmosphere is somewhat bohemian and I encourage you to go visit the one next to the Thames River, the setting is absolutely superb.

The food is absolutely delicious and the plating is pretentious, but the portions are French-like, no as big, as some of the men in my entourage were complaining. The prices are reasonable, it is not the cheapest restaurant in London, but it shows value for money.

For appetizers, go for soupe a l’oignon, their signature French onion soup with melting Gruyere cheese crouton. I am not the biggest fan of this soup, but I have to admit I had to taste it, as it looked really posh, and it was really good. cafe rouge onion soupIf you like me, prefer seafood, then the crevettes is what you should definitely have. The king prawns are oven cooked in chilli and garlic butter and they taste divine.

If you are more of a white meat kind of person, then demi poulet is a natural choice for you. Half a garlic and thyme chicken with rocket and frites would complete your taste buds.

My friends who had this dish, said it was a bit too heavy with the sage, so you might want to let the cook know your taste before ordering it.
