A true fashionista stays connected to every trend out there, each season. Nothing too old, or too new for her, she is living the life she dreamed about when she was little. That’s why, when she found out about the ancient Hammam towel better known as the Pestemal, she became really curious and eager to learn more about this accessory. You all know I am talking about my curiosity, right? Well, a couple of weeks ago, I saw a Pestemal at one of the many press events I attend so often, and it really caught my eye. If you have absolutely no idea what I am talking about, Pestemal has been around since the end of the Roman Empire. Today, this towel is on trend with vibrant contemporary designs for the 21st century.

Cagnino is a London based company that is proud to follow an ancient trend, by launching its first Hammam towels collection. Weaved in a region where the cotton is picked, spun and hand woven into the final piece, its authenticity has been kept in tact yet fits perfectly into this century. We all love when history finds a way to return to the present, with all its beauty and charm. Homeware has been close and dear to my heart, and I look for ideas wherever I go, especially exotic and mysterious infused places. Since finding out that Pestemal towels were used for so many purposes in the past, I became much more interested in them. These towels were used as bath sheets during the Victorian era when men and women traveled to Asia Minor on diplomatic trips or as part of the Grand tour. On their return, the gentry set up Turkish baths in London to be used for business meetings and contemporaries. Those who liked to show off would walk around these London baths displaying the correct way to use a Hammam towel. towels2Today, there are endless ways to use the Hammam towel. Just imagine yourself lying on the beach, with no care in the world, just you and this amazing red Pestemal. Due to the superior grade of the cotton yarn mixed with a dose of Bamboo to increase softness and performance, the towel is super absorbent, becoming a perfect addition to your bathroom. It also looks extremely special and picturesque as a throw in your living room, or a wrap for the cold season. The Cagnino Hammam towels are made exclusively in Denizli, Turkey, from seedling to weave, by a family who live in a village 650 feet above sea level. A warm and friendly father and son team who run a tight ship of sturdy vintage looms. Their factory has been going for over a hundred years being passed down through generations. Cagnino are proud to present the original Hammam towel, grown and woven in a region that has claim to being the home of cotton textiles in Europe. I am overly excited whenever I hear about an amazing skill passed down generation to generation, because it means we can all benefit from their talented and beautiful crafts, such as these multipurpose Pestemals. I am looking forward to your thoughts, let me know where would you use a Hammam towel?CagninoNW10 Pestemal collection1
