AlumierMD peel and treatment – how it changed my skin
I never imagined my skin will ever change dramatically in a short amount of time. I used to have some issues with dryness, dullness, uneven skin tone, spots, fine lines, and dark circles, and going out without my makeup on presented a challenge. In my youth, I didn’t pay attention to the importance of skincare, probably because not a lot of information was available, I didn’t have time to do my research and I was also living on a tight student budget. Sleepless nights, sometimes sleeping with my makeup on, lack of SPF, unhealthy diet, harsh weather conditions, they all put a dent in my complexion. Here I am, in my 30s, trying to salvage my skin condition. I dedicated the last 7 years to finding what works best for my skin, and turned everything into a routine I followed religiously.
Now, I can say that my skin changed quite a lot, but it did take a long time before I was finally happy with the results. My skin is not flaky anymore, it is more even toned, and not as dry as it used to be. However, I do crave for a healthy glow and dewiness, and I still get dry patches around my mouth, as well as some spots on my chin and cheeks. Do I have to wait for another 7 years of testing expensive products? Not anymore, luckily!
I have been so blessed to discover AlumierMD and the lovely Victoria, skincare specialist, who revolutionised my skin’s condition in as little as 2 months. Yes, you read that right, it’s not a typo. Through advanced proprietary chemistry, AlumierMD which is a medical skincare brand, delivers exceptional results all while being free of parabens, sulphates, petrolatum and dyes. All this “clean living” trend that has taken the world by storm should be found in the health of the skin too, right? AlumierMD’s formulation philosophy of “clean science” is not just for the diverse range of at home cosmeceutical products, but ensure their in clinic treatment peels are “clean” too. Which is what I had a couple of months ago at Harvey Nichols and my life changed right after it. Most beneficial ingredients for the skin tend to degrade or denature when placed in the low pH of chemical peel formulas. AlumierMD peels use only the pure acids: antioxidants, anti-ageing and brightening booster ingredients are applied post-peel in their Brightening Accelerator so all components remain effective. Peels remove the outer dead layers of the stratum corneum, so the booster ingredients are better absorbed when applied post-peel.
There are 5 peels you can have with AlumierMD. The first one it’s called Detox Clear, and it is ideal for most skin types to assist in skin detoxification. It reduces the signs of acne, minimises pore appearance and brightens skin. The second peel is called Radiant 20/10 which is a powerful combination of alpha and beta hydroxyl acid resurfacing peel that both rejuvenates skin and reduces the signs of acne. The third peel is called Radiant 30 and it is an AHA resurfacing peel containing lactic acid to decrease the visible signs of ageing and hyperpigmentation.
I had the Glow Peel and Vitamin A boost with lactic acid, salicylic acid, and resorcinol, each in 7% concentration. That makes it a modified half Jessner. Dr Jessner created the combination of the three acids in 14% each. The Glow Peel is a light peel perfect for gentle rejuvenation whilst still getting the affect. The percentages of the Vitamin A boost are 1% retinol, 2% retinal palmitate and 22% lactic acid, and these boost the peeling effect, helping stimulate collagen and brightening too. The amazing thing about AlumierMD peels is that they are all hyper-customised on the day of your peel. You can have up to three different peels in one treatment. The skincare professional will design each peel based on your skin type, skin condition and based on the performance of the skin on the day. It does sting and get uncomfortable as each layer is applied, this is why the specialist will only do sections of your complexion at a time (forehead, chin, cheeks).
I was able to go through 2 peels in one session, although I felt like my face was on fire and I wanted a third layer, Victoria advised is better to stop and continue in a different session. The more layers you get, the better. After my first session I got flakes around my chin and mouth, which showed a plum skin after a few days as a result of my first peel. But the new cells were hidden under other layers of skin so by continuing adding a course of peels, we would see better and brighter skin. Honestly, after a week my skin looked amazing! Imagine the results after two months of using prescribed AlumierMD skincare products to continue the results. Right now, my routine consists in applying 8 products almost every day and night. It might seem a lot, but this routine has made me see the best complexion I ever had since I was a baby probably!
The key to beautiful skin is a customized skincare. No more guess work, you need a regimen that is catered to your specific skin needs and see real results. This is what Alumier MD does and why you need to find the right professional to help you. There are 36 products in their range and today I’ll only write about the ones I’ve been using so far.
Morning routine
To remove my makeup I use the Purifying Gel Cleanser which is a pH balanced foaming cleanser gentle and effective. Coconut and plant-based surfactants, chamomile, aloe to sooth and hydrate your complexion, this is great for all types of skin. After that I use the Bright & Clear Solution, which I think it’s such an amazing product. A refreshing skin toner that includes lactic acid, lime pearl and soy amino acids which gently exfoliate dead skin cells to brighten the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also has arnica to sooth the skin and plenty of vitamin C, great as an antioxidant protection from free radical damage. I use this toner during the evening too, as it’s mild enough.
Since boosters are so popular lately, I had to use the Ultimate Boost Serum before applying my moisturiser. The lightweight serum enhances the skin’s natural hydrolipd barrier with sodium hyaluronate and vitamin B3 (niacinamide). It improves skin density and elasticity, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Including a blend of tea extracts and powerful antioxidants, the serum neutralizes ageing free radicals to protect the skin from future damage caused by the sun and pollution.
Next comes my EvenTone Brightening Serum, a lightweight serum that contains naturally powerful pigment inhibitors to brighten the complexion and reduce hyperpigmentation. It’s great in combination with retinol serums to enhance exfoliation of existing dark spots, but I prefer using the retinol during my evening routine. Ever since I’ve used this brightening serum, I’ve noticed my all time yellow skin tone becoming pinker and brighter, much more even. I had a video shooting last week where I had to appear completely bare face, with no makeup on and I wasn’t scared, thanks to my current AlumierMD routine.
I also like to take special care of my under eye area with the AluminEye. This is an amazing eye cream packed with peptides that diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen and elastin, reduce puffiness by improving lymphatic drainage, and lessen under-eye circles by clearing dark pigments from within the skin. The cream has a combination of vitamin B3, murumuru butter moisturizer, tremella mushroom extract, as well as a unique blend of antioxidants to protect against UV-induced free radical damage. AluminEye also contains light-reflecting and soft-focus ingredients to lighten the appearance of under-eye darkness, which for me is a hero!
The final step is applying either my Recovery Balm, or the Clear Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 42. You should use it even indoors as UVA travels through glass. It comes in tinted or clear, and it’s a lightweight non-comedogenic sunscreen that protects against harmful UVA and UVB rays using a combination of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, both physical filters. Niacinamide soothes and relieves redness to target blemishes and sodium hyaluronate hydrates, ideal for sensitive skin. This sunscreen is great for oily and acne-prone skin too.
Night routine
Every evening before going to bed I use my cleanser, Bright and Clear Solution to wipe off those dead cells, followed by the Intellibright Complex. This is a serum that contains naturally powerful skin brightening agents that enhance results and resistance to new pigment formation. Arbutin, kojic acid, licorice, vitamin B3 brighten skin, even skin tone and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
Two or three times per week I use my Retinol Surfacing Serum 0.25 for achieving a more radiant and even complexion. It is such an amazing product that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and stimulates collagen production and speeding cell turnover. I’ve started with the lowest concentrate because my complexion is quite sensitive, so it’s better to build your resistance gradually. The AlumierMD retinol allows for a gradual timed release into the skin overnight. By encapsulating the retinol and adding soothing and hydrating ingredients like vitamin B3, tea extracts, honey and sodium hyaluronate, maximal results can be achieved with minimal irritation.
The next would be applying the Ultimate Boost Serum, followed by the most hydrating cream, the Recovery Balm. It is specially formulated for post-procedure recovery, but I used it twice a day, especially during the cold season, as it’s packed with antioxidant ingredients which calm the skin. Aloe, honey and boswellia soothe, shea butter hydrates, and copper peptide rehabilitates the look of the skin. This is such a gentle yet rich cream, and makeup applies amazingly on top too. I finish everything off with my AluminEye.
I have honestly seen such amazing improvement in my skin almost over night. Two months after my peel and continuous use of the AlumierMD products I can’t recommend it enough to everyone. It is best to have a peel every month for about 4 to 5 sessions, depending on the issues of your skin. I am having another procedure late April, and I can’t wait to show you the results!
